DINAMITEK PRESENTS THE SANDBLASTING GUIDE
Sandblasting: Learn more about this technique with Dinamitek
Dinamitek presents the guide on sandblasting
Anyone who works with iron knows that the piece, before being painted, must first be sandblasted.
Sandblasting can be used for satin finishing, finishing work, engraving, restoration work, and even for paint stripping.
With the right types of inert media (sandblasting material) and the right operating pressure, any surface can be brought back to life. This is a delicate operation, requiring expert intervention.
Using a recovery sandblaster, i.e., one with a recovery booth or chamber, allows for safer work: the abrasive and dust are not dispersed into the air, the worker proceeds separated from the sand and does not have to worry about recovering the material after the work. The sandblasting booth allows for the separation of abrasive and waste dust.

The sandblasting cabinet can operate with a vacuum-vacuum system or a pressure system. The latter is the most effective because air and abrasive are projected directly onto the surface.
We often hear people talking about shot blasting instead of sandblasting. What's the difference between the two techniques?
The difference lies in the type of abrasive used. Shot peening uses microspheres that can be made of glass, ceramic, or steel, while sandblasting uses sharp-edged inert materials such as sand, aluminum oxide, garnet, and the like. The spheroidal material does not remove material and therefore does not alter the surface being treated.

We answer the most frequently asked questions about sandblasting.
What is sandblasting used for?
As we said, to prepare the metal piece for painting. Sandblasting removes rust, scale, and dirt.
What materials is it used on?
Sandblasting is an effective method on iron, cast iron, metal alloys in general, wood, ceramics, stone and marble.
What are the fields of application of sandblasting?
Sandblasting is used in industrial, mechanical, and construction contexts. It's used in carpentry and vehicle restoration, from the largest workpiece to the smallest details.
What does the air consumption of the sandblaster depend on?
The consumption of the sandblaster depends exclusively on two factors, the diameter of the nozzle and the operating pressure of the sandblaster.
Let's take an illustrative example:
With 2.5 mm nozzle at 4 BAR it consumes 255, at 8 bar 348
With a 6.5 mm nozzle at 4 BAR it consumes 1803, at 8 bar 2437
Can recycled sand be used?
Recycled materials such as sea sand and river sand should not be used because they offer poor performance and generate a lot of dust. This material is also unsuitable in terms of environmental impact.
