The Proxxon Silicon Carbide abrasive wheels and discs represent the industry standard for those working on surfaces requiring consistent abrasion and controlled heating. Silicon carbide is an abrasive material known for its exceptional hardness, surpassed only by diamond. Specifically designed for working very hard or brittle materials such as glass, ceramic, porcelain, stoneware, carbide, and cast iron. Silicon carbide is a more aggressive abrasive and is more suitable for these materials than aluminum oxide (used for common steel).

These wheels are mounted on a pin (shank) and are used for shaping and finishing hard surfaces.

Silicon Carbide Abrasive Discs (Cutting/Deburring)

These discs are primarily used for cutting hard materials. They require a disc holder (such as the Proxxon 28940 or similar) to be mounted on the tool.

Directions for use:

• Speed: Use at medium/high speed.
• Cooling: If you work glass or ceramics intensively (e.g. drilling or aggressive grinding), the use of water as a lubricant/coolant is strongly recommended to avoid overheating and breakage of the material.
• Abrasive: Silicon carbide is very effective but wears; it is less "everlasting" than diamond, but offers a different surface finish.

Technical Advice: To achieve the best results when engraving glass, it is recommended to maintain a stable rotation speed and not to apply excessive pressure, allowing the high speed of the Micromot system to promote the natural removal of the material.
