PROXXON GRINDING WHEELS AND DISCS FOR GLASS, CERAMIC, PORCELAIN AND HARD METAL
The Proxxon silicon carbide grinding wheels from the Micromot 2025 line are high-precision rotary tools, characterised by a fine, uniform grain and extremely homogeneous hardness.
These accessories were specifically developed for professional use on mineral and brittle materials, allowing you to engrave and dull glass, ceramic, and porcelain with maximum control. Thanks to their high abrasive capacity, they are equally effective in grinding hard metals, hard cast iron, and tempered steels . The standard 2.35 mm shank ensures full compatibility with all Micromot precision systems.
Superior Quality for Technical and Artistic Work
The Proxxon Silicon Carbide abrasive wheels and discs represent the industry standard for those working on surfaces requiring consistent abrasion and controlled heating. Silicon carbide is an abrasive material known for its exceptional hardness, surpassed only by diamond. Specifically designed for working very hard or brittle materials such as glass, ceramic, porcelain, stoneware, carbide, and cast iron. Silicon carbide is a more aggressive abrasive and is more suitable for these materials than aluminum oxide (used for common steel).
Main Technical Features:
- Fine and Uniform Grain: Ensures a smooth surface finish, preventing the creation of grooves or chips on fragile materials such as glass and porcelain.
- Homogeneous Hardness: Allows for consistent stock removal throughout the life of the tool, making it ideal for grinding hard metals and cast iron.
- System Precision: Designed to operate vibration-free when used with Micromot steel collets, eliminating mechanical play that could damage workpieces.
- Energy Versatility: Compatible with 230V corded tools and the modern 10.8V cordless range, such as the IBS/A or the Micromot 60/E.
Silicon Carbide Series and Assortments Analysis 2.35 mm Shank
The range includes:
Silicon Carbide Grinding Wheels (Grinding and Engraving) 2.35 mm shank
These wheels are mounted on a pin (shank) and are used for shaping and finishing hard surfaces.
| Code | Quantity/Shape | Size (Head and Ø) | Application |
|---|---|---|---|
| 28270 | 2 pcs Conical + Cylindrical | 2.5-7, Ø 2 mm 2.5-5 mm | Mixed set for glass, ceramic, and carbide. The conical one is for corners/holes, the cylindrical one for flat surfaces/edges. |
| 28272 | 2 pcs (geometric) | Ø 8 mm | Ideal for creating recesses, curved grooves or beads in hard materials such as semi-precious stones, glass or ceramics. |
Silicon Carbide Abrasive Discs (Cutting/Deburring)
These discs are primarily used for cutting hard materials. They require a disc holder (such as the Proxxon 28940 or similar) to be mounted on the tool.
| Code | Quantity/Shape | Size (Ø Outside / thickness) | Application |
|---|---|---|---|
| 28304 | 10 pcs (Full Disc) | Ø 22 / 3 mm | Cutting and deburring fiberglass, stone, cast iron, and composite materials. They are thin and rigid. |
Directions for use:
- Speed: Use at medium/high speed.
- Cooling: If you work glass or ceramics intensively (e.g. drilling or aggressive grinding), the use of water as a lubricant/coolant is strongly recommended to avoid overheating and breakage of the material.
- Abrasive: Silicon carbide is very effective but wears; it is less "everlasting" than diamond, but offers a different surface finish.
Technical Advice: To achieve the best results when engraving glass, it is recommended to maintain a stable rotation speed and not to apply excessive pressure, allowing the high speed of the Micromot system to promote the natural removal of the material.
