WOLFRAM VANADIUM CUTTERS FOR NON-FERROUS METALS, PLASTICS AND PLASTER PROXXON ROTARY TOOLS
The Proxxon shank cutters made of special wolfram-vanadium steel are rotary tools of selected high quality, designed to offer appropriate and robust execution in all types of precision machining.
These Micromot accessories feature a shank and heads crafted from a single solid piece , ensuring optimal concentricity and elasticity. Thanks to their precision-ground teeth, they are ideal for freehand work on wood (soft and hard), non-ferrous metals, precious metals, plastics, and plaster. For a secure, powerful grip, we recommend using them with the MICROMOT 28940 steel collets .
Industrial quality for model making and fine mechanics
The Proxxon represents the gold standard for finishing, shaping, profiling, and grooving operations. The use of wolfram-vanadium steel ensures the cutting edge maintains its effectiveness even after prolonged use, preventing overheating that can damage the material being worked.
Main features
- One-piece construction: The shank and head are machined from a single piece, eliminating weak points and ensuring vibration-free rotation.
- Precision Sharpening: Each tooth is individually ground to ensure smooth penetration into both precious metals and the hardest woods.
- Compatibility: available with Ø 2.35 or 3 mm shank, perfectly integrable with all MICROMOT series drills and milling machines.
- Areas of use: ideal for dental technicians, goldsmiths, model makers and restoration laboratories.
- Use: Ideal for model making and freehand work on soft and hard woods, non-ferrous metals, plastics and plaster.
Technical analysis of series models
Here are the details of the geometries of the 2-piece packs available:
| Code | Form | Technical description |
|---|---|---|
| 28722 | Cylindrical | 3 mm shank, cylindrical head with flat tip (Ø 3 mm). Ideal for grooving and leveling. |
| 28723 | Rounded conical | 2.35 mm shank, Also called “bullet”, it has straight walls that end in a curved tip (Ø from 6 to 4 mm). |
| 28724 | By flame | 2.35 mm shank, convex profile (bellied) that tapers towards the tip (Ø 6 mm). Excellent for concave surfaces. |
| 28725 | Spherical | Shank 2.35 mm, Ball head (Ø 6 mm). Used for round recesses, holes and free-form modelling. |
| 28726 | Oval | Shank 2.35 mm, “Olive” or ovoid shape (Ø 8 mm). Useful for connecting corners and roughing out organic shapes. |
| 28727 | On the disc | 3 mm shank, flat circular cutter (Ø 10 mm). Specifically designed for creating thin slots and precise cuts. |
Other articles in the series
28710 – 5-piece milling cutter set
The Proxxon 28710 set is a set of 5 tungsten-vanadium steel cutters, designed for smaller precision jobs than individual sets, where a 6 mm head would be too bulky. (The heads have diameters of 2.3 mm and 3.1 mm and a 2.35 mm shank).
Here are the shapes included in set 28710:
- Rounded conical (ogival): Ø 2.3 mm for profiling and finishing slots.
- Spherical (ball): Ø 2.3 mm for round recesses and holes.
- Disc (wheel): Ø 3.1 mm for creating grooves and thin linear cuts.
- Cylindrical: Ø 2.3 mm for grooves and levelling.
- Oval (or olive): Ø 2.3 mm (shank size integrated into the shape) for connecting corners and roughing out organic shapes.
28720 – 3-piece cutter set
The Proxxon 28720 set is a mixed pack containing 3 tungsten-vanadium steel cutters with a head diameter of 5 mm and a standard 2.35 mm shank.
The three forms included in this series are:
- Rounded conical (or ogive): for profiling and finishing slots.
- Spherical (ball): for round recesses and holes.
- Disc (or wheel): to create grooves and thin linear cuts.
It is a very versatile basic set, ideal for model making work on wood, plastic and non-ferrous metals, as it offers the three fundamental geometries for roughing, profiling and finishing.
Technical note
To minimize wear on the rotary tool and ensure maximum concentricity, we recommend adjusting the speed of the MICROMOT device to the hardness of the material (e.g. lower speeds for plastics, higher speeds for hardwoods and metals).
