DINAMITEK PRESENTS A SMALL REFERENCE GUIDE FOR TREE FELLING
Tree felling: follow the instructions of Dinamitek experts.
Dinamitek presents a small reference guide for felling trees .
This is not a course; beginners are advised to seek guidance from experienced operators.
To get started, you need to do three things: equip yourself with the right safety gear, check the condition of your chainsaw, and finally plan the tree felling operation.
1 Get the safety devices you need are:
- Protective trousers
- Approved helmet
- Boots with steel toe, anti-cut protection in the foot and non-slip sole
- Work gloves
- Long-sleeved shirt or jacket
I want to see the full range of PPE
2 Check your chainsaw:
- voltage
- lubrication
- tightening and lubricating the chain
- air filter, ventilation slots and brake band free from obstructions.

3 Plan your action
It's recommended to fell the tree in the direction it would naturally fall, given its slope, size, and wind direction. The safest and easiest way to cut down a tree is to cut down a trunk with a diameter smaller than the chainsaw bar.
Before cutting the trunk, you must trim any low branches and clear the surrounding area of any obstacles that might prevent you from easily reaching your escape route. Also, consider that the fall could expose roots; you must be able to step back without tripping.
To direct the tree's fall , you need to cut a kind of hinge into the trunk: a wedge that will guide the fall. There are two directional cuts: one above and one below. By making a 60-degree cut downward and then a 60-degree cut upward, you will obtain a perfect directional cut with a 90-degree opening. The depth of this cut is 1/4-1/5 of the trunk diameter.
Now you can make the felling cut at the height of the direction cut (leaving a uniform 3 cm thick hinge). If the trunk diameter is smaller than the length of the bar, you can make the felling cut from behind the direction of felling. Otherwise, begin inserting the bar from one side of the trunk and work backward along the circumference of the trunk. Maintain a stable stance with your feet apart, hold the handle firmly with your left thumb, and apply maximum power before starting to cut. When you've cut halfway through the felling cut, stop the cut and insert a felling or splitting wedge into the cut. This prevents the tree from bending backward and jamming the chainsaw guide bar. The wedge also makes it easier to fell the tree. Then, complete the felling cut, being careful not to saw into the wedge.
Once the cut is complete, retreat following the retreat path which will be oblique to the direction of the tree.
The felled tree must be limbed , starting from the roots and working up to the crown. This operation must be carried out with caution. The tree trunk should be held as a protective barrier between the operator and the branch to be cut. After limbing the trunk to the tip, rotate it and limb the lower part. Try to support it on a rock, stump, or log to achieve a comfortable working height.
