ATEX NON-SPARKING TOOLS: EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW WITH DINAMITEK
Dinamitek presents the new range of KS Tools non-sparking ATEX tools
ATEX Non-Sparking Tools: Everything You Need to Know with Dinamitek
Spark-proof tools are mandatory in potentially explosive environments. This isn't a safety measure, but a life-saving measure that must be strictly adhered to.
At European level, the acronym ATEX has been established to mark spark-proof and explosion-proof tools.
ATEX comes from the words ATmosphères and EXplosibles and identifies two European Union directives relating to work in potentially explosive atmospheres:
- Directive 2014/34/EU on the regulation of equipment intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres ;
- Directive 99/92/EC on the safety and health of workers in explosive atmospheres .
The acronym ATEX therefore indicates the certification of a tool safe for use in hazardous environments. The use of ATEX tools is just one of the necessary safety measures: it is always necessary to follow all the procedures established to limit the risks associated with the work environment.
For the safety of people during the following phases:
- installation,
- operation,
- plant maintenance
In areas where there is a risk of explosion, KS Tools provides tools marked with the ATEX 137 (118) symbol. Spark-free KS Tools tools are suitable for all areas where sparks pose a risk of fire or explosion. They are also suitable wherever anti-magnetic and corrosion-resistant tools are required.
ATEX zone classification
Presence of gas (from most at risk to least at risk area):
- zone 0
- zone 1
- zone 2
Presence of dust (from most at risk to least at risk area):
- zone 20
- zone 21
- zone 22

Fields of application
- chemical and petrochemical industry
- gas and oil supply facilities
- oil pipelines
- underwater drilling platforms
- gas and power generation plants
- painting systems
- tank maintenance and processing
- armed forces
- civil protection
- firefighters
Maintenance of non-sparking tools
- for sharpening, contact KS Tools directly or request specific technical instructions;
- avoid excessive stress during use (they are less resistant than traditional tools).
Materials: BRONZE-plus and BERYLLIUM-plus
KS Tools manufactures non-sparking tools in two special materials:
BRONZE-plus – non-ferrous alloy of aluminum and bronze. Main properties: non-sparking, explosion-proof, corrosion-resistant, wear-resistant.
BERYLLIUM-plus – non-ferrous alloy of copper and beryllium. Main properties: non-sparking, explosion-proof, corrosion-resistant, unbreakable.
